The 11th Mobile World Congress, the biggest event for the mobile phone industry, took place in Barcelona from 22 to 25 February 2016.

It was a record-breaking event, attracting 101,000 professional visitors, so a 7.4% increase compared to 2015. The event has now further established itself as the number 1 in the field of mobile telecoms, taking a broader look at the themes tackled.

About the event

The Mobile World Congress, organised by the GSM Association (GSMA), is an unmissable event for the mobile telephone industry, and represents a real showcase for all the latest technology, not to mention the services and innovations available in the sector. There were events put on by Samsung, Sony, HTC and LG to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the LG G5 and the HTC One M10.

  • 2,200 exhibitors (2,000 in 2015);
  • more than 3,600 journalists and business analysts;
  • 101,000 professional visitors (7.4% more than 2015);
  • 204 countries and territories represented.

The trends on show at the 2016 event

The Smartphone is no longer the only star of the show: there’s now also virtual and augmented reality, big data and 5G, which are set to be key factors when it comes to the widespread adoption of the Internet of Things, the development of photo sensors in Smartphones, contact and contactless mobile payments, all kinds of wearables (from smart toothbrushes to smart watches and rings), the roaming market on airplanes and cars that are becoming more and more connected.The participants

A Belgian pavilion covering 180m² had been set up by AWEX, Brussels Invest & Export and Flanders Investment and Trade.

Alongside the exhibition area organised by AWEX, the Cluster TIC, the BEP through Enterprise Europe Network Wallonie (EEN) and Startups.be had put together a mission to
