Digital Wallonia was at the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, from 26 February to 1 March, at a combined stand co-organised by AWEX. MWC is the annual event for the mobile industry and associated sectors, organised by the GSM Association (GSMA).
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is an unmissable event for the mobile telephone industry, and represents a real showcase for the latest technology, not to mention the most innovative products available in the sector.
MWC also offers the perfect opportunity to meet the industry’s leaders, visionaries and innovators, to explore the trends that will mould the mobile phone industry in the future. The programme for the 2018 event was built around the following themes:
- networks and future service providers,
- digital technology for consumers.
- innovation and artificial intelligence,
- media and content,
- the fourth industrial revolution.
A few figures
MWC attracts over 2,300 exhibitors in 9 halls and a dozen external spaces, 208 countries and territories are represented and 3,500 delegates from the international press attend.
In 2017, the event broke all records in terms of visitor numbers, with 108,000 professionals attending, so an increase of 7% compared with 2016, establishing itself as the number 1 international event for the mobile telecoms industry.
Walloon participants
For the 2018 event, Digital Wallonia was in the Belgian pavilion covering 180m², in Hall 7, set up by AWEX, Brussels Invest & Export and Flanders Investment and Trade. 14 Walloon businesses and start-ups were representing on the combined stand.
6 other digital start-ups from Wallonia were at 4YFN 2018 (Fira Montjuic), within the context of a stand organised by the business incubator [profiles type="single" slug="digital-attraxion" display="link"]Digital Attraxion[/profiles].
Alongside the exhibition spaces, the EEN (Enterprise Europe Network) in collaboration with the Infopôle Cluster TIC organised some business meetings.
